About Redwood City, California
The home of Electronic Arts, Oracle, and other technological companies, the city of Redwood is the county seat of San Mateo County in the state of California. The city is known as California charter city which lies on the San Francisco Peninsula in the Northern California region. It has a total land area of 34.6 sq. mi. and located about 25 miles southern part of downtown San Francisco. Situated within the city is the Port of Redwood City, the only deepwater port that can be found in the south of San Francisco Bay area. Redwood City was incorporated in 1867 and was named redwood because of the huge number of timbers that were commonly lugged from the port. The Union Cemetery is located in the Woodside Road, and considered as an historical landmark and was added in the list of National Historic Register in 1983. The city of Redwood is also known for its slogan, Climate Best by Government Test, based on the climatological survey conducted by the German government and the United States in the past. Two of the best players of football were born in Redwood. Greg Camarillo, Minnesota Vikings current wide receiver, and Julian Edelman, New England Patriots wide receiver, were both born in the city. Don Mossi, a MLB player during the 1960s also lived in the city at 1925 Vera Avenue. Some of the largest technological companies in the country are based in Redwood; among them are BroadVision, BigBand Networks, Ampex, Shutterfly, Informatica, and Support.com.
