It lies along local roads northeast of the town of Broadus, the county seat of Powder River County. Its elevation is 2,828 feet (862 m). Although Powderville is unincorporated, it has a post office, with the ZIP code of 59345. The town was known as Elkhorn Crossing during the days of the Deadwood Stage.
