About Springfield, Oregon

The city of Springfield, Oregon acquired its name from one of the natural springs located inside the city. The first settlers of Springfield were families looking for a place to call home. There are the Briggs family, the Stevens family, and Captain Scott. The city was finally incorporated in 1885. From its humble beginnings, it now has a population of more than 50,000; residents who have made Springfield their home. Even though Springfield has been inaugurated as a city, it still manages to maintain its small town charm. For a time, the city depended on the lumber industry as its primary source of income. However, the lumber source soon dwindled, and the economy was affected. Now, the city has various sources of income. Some of these include the newly opened hospital Sacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend, which opened employment opportunities for the residents. Up to now, the Springfield Creamery that specializes in what is known as ‘Nancy’s Yogurt’ is still fully operation.
