About Dagus Mines, Pennsylvania

Dagus Mines is an unincorporated community located in Elk County, Pennsylvania. The actual year it was founded is unknown but believed to be 1829. After the Civil War, Dagus Mines became well-known for its good supply of coal. Eventually the Northwestern Mining and Exchange Company. The area had many successful mines, the most famous one being a 36" thick section of the Lower Kittanning seam. (Sometimes locally known as the Dagus seam.)
